Howdy folks!

Icetech08 is coming along real fast --- so don’t forget to start getting your western outfits as that’s what the official dress is!

The Arctic Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers is now well on the way to staging ICETECH 08, the premiere international conference on ships and structures in ice. The conference will take place in Banff, Alberta on July 20 to 23, with an opening icebreaker buffet and reception on Sunday July 20, 2007. We are pleased to advise that we have gold sponsors including ConocoPhillipos, BP, Transport Canada, silver sponsors, Shell, Sandwell, and USARC, as well as several bronze sponsors, all shown on this website.

So if you haven‘t already, we invite you to join in this exciting event through technical paper presentation, as well as through exhibitor or sponsorship participation! As you know, we have extended the deadline for abstracts to February 20 to accommodate everyone, so the key dates are as follows:

Abstract Submission: 20 February 2008
Abstract Acceptance: 28 February 2008
Early Registration Discount: 18 April 2008

Technical Paper Submission for Review:

20 April 2008
Notification of Acceptance or Revisions: 20 May 2008
Publication Copy Due: 20 June 2008
Conference Begins: Sunday 20 July 2008
Conference Ends: Wednesday 23 July 2008

We have just added a Preliminary Programme Outline---on the left side of this Home Page---and you can see that it’s shaping up to be a current issue and real project conference with ample opportunity to participate in panels and discussions.  The theme of the conference is "Performance of Ships and Structures in Ice" but we are including the hot topics of global warming, geopolitics, and future expectations for the Arctic through participation of Arctic Marine Shipping Assessment (AMSA) and other experts.

Of course, we are again holding the conference at the spectacular venue of the Banff Conference Centre located in Banff, Alberta, Canada. Here, conference and exhibition, accommodations, recreation, and dining facilities are provided in an integrated complex located in the heart of the Canadian Rocky Mountains—so there is plenty of opportunity for tours before and after the conference and for accompanying persons during the conference.

You are invited invite to review the detailed information on our website--preliminary programme, social functions, tours, accommodations, on line conference registration package including meals, accommodations, and various participation options. And I truly hope you will honour us by registering and following up with participation in this exciting international exhibition and conference!
